Pastoral & Counselling Department

‘At Brookhurst International Schools, the well-being of every student is at the heart of
everything we do. Our Pastoral and Counselling Department takes a proactive and holistic
approach to student mental health, combining wellbeing education, early intervention, and
individualised support, ensuring that every student feels seen, safe, and valued. With
qualified counsellors on site, we are committed to creating a safe environment that promotes
emotional resilience, positive relationships, and a strong sense of belonging.

The department works closely with teachers, parents, school leadership, and external
professionals to identify and respond to student needs. The team is trained to recognise the
early signs that a student may need additional support, in behaviour changes, attendance,
academic performance, or emotional engagement, and acts with care and sensitivity when
those signs arise.

From individual and group counselling sessions to pastoral programmes that address social,
emotional, behavioural, and academic challenges, the department is tailored to each student’s unique circumstances, helping them develop self-awareness, healthy relationships, and effective coping skills for life beyond the classroom.

Brookhurst is deeply committed to strengthening and expanding its approach to student wellbeing. We continue to invest in staff training, enhance our wellbeing education offering, and develop new opportunities for students to engage in preventative programmes that build resilience and emotional literacy. Pastoral care at Brookhurst is not a service students access only in moments of difficulty; it is a culture we nurture every day, across both our Lavington and Kiserian campuses.
