Stay ahead of the curve #Brookhurst

At Brookhurst Kiserian, We have a comprehensive academic learning programs delivered with passion in an excellent learning environment away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The more interesting is that the curriculum takes a more progressive approach where one stage builds to another, emphasis is on development of the whole student, focusing on each student as unique, developing positive relationships (with teachers, peers and parents), focusing on an enabling environment for learning beyond the classroom and a systematic focus on the outcomes and the results of the education.

PREPARATORY SCHOOL

Brookhurst’s preparatory school takes students through an academic journey from ages of 5 to 11 years old, Year 1 to Year 8. The Brookhurst preparatory school is an important foundation phase of a child’s school life and presents the best opportunity to imbue academic rigor, lifelong values and innovative spirit. We foster good work habits, self-discipline, resilience, confidence and concern for others, which will stand them in good stead throughout their education – and well beyond.

The curriculum centers on learners studying in small classes headed by a group of students responsible for their general program and welfare. Learners acquire a strong a grasp of English, Kiswahili and Math. The staff also teach science, humanities and art through the inquiry based international primary curriculum. Subjects such as ICT, languages, music, drama and physical ed are taught by experienced specialists.

Years 6-8 learn under specialist tutors and subject specific teachers. The academic progress of classes is monitored by academic deans headed by the deputy principal. Learners study additional subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Humanities, Religious Studies, Art, Food Technology, Design and Technology.

Small Class Sizes

Brookhurst believes in giving our learners high levels of individual attention through smaller class sizes. Small class sizes enable teachers to provide the necessary attention to each pupil to support their own individual learning needs. Staff get to know your child thoroughly and will feedback on their progress through a series of informal and formal meetings, regular reports and whenever a particular need arises.

Developing Potential

Preparatory schooling at Brookhurst aims to prepare learners for their future schooling by developing their skills and abilities. Whether a learner comes to Brookhurst as a high achiever, underachiever, coaster or struggling with barriers to their learning, we have the expertise to develop their potential, engage them in the classroom and break down barriers. Key to teaching is understanding each learner is different, and provide an atmosphere in which can confidently progress to the best of their ability.

HIGH SCHOOL

Brookhurst’s High school enrolls learners from the age range of 14 to 16 years of age, year 9 to 11. Year 9 students begin their high school journey by following a broad and balanced curriculum designed to provide them with multiple options and develop their essential skills. As students’ progress to Years 10-11 the compulsory curriculum is slimmed down as students are offered greater choice in the subjects they study. Students sit for their O-Level examinations at Year 11.

English & Kiswahili language and literature, mathematics and sciences are core subjects for all students. Students are also encouraged to select a modern foreign language (French, German, Mandarin) as a core subject. Beyond the core element of the curriculum, a wide range of option subjects are available.

A-LEVEL

Advanced Level (sixth form) syllabuses prepare learners for university study. A Level is typically a two-year course, and Cambridge International AS Level is typically one year. Students aged 17 to 19 years covering Years 12 and 13.
