The KAISSO U15 Boys Basketball League kicked off earlier this term bringing together various schools from various regions. The association ensures development along with the interactions with other schools in the region as we shape up the athletes of tomorrow.
In the first ever KAISSO tournament participation, our team of the under 15 boys basketball had made sure to win majority of the games in the regional stages to book a spot in the finals to be held at Rift Valley Academy later in the term. The journey to the top wasn’t as easy as they thought, with the new league coming in it meant the team had to up their game. The team had vigorous sessions with the coaches ensuring they are in top form for performance. This kicked off with a match against Nairobi Academy which started off tense but the boys came through after a dominant 4 th quarter of the game ending 27-24 in Brookhurst favor, heading home with all 4 points as its stated in the league handbook.
A week later the boys were in around the same area only this time having to face off against Hillcrest. Yet another strong finish and display of resilience made sure the boys again bagged the points. This time the game ended 24-21 in Brookhurst’s favor. As the league progressed our boys had to take a trip to Greensteads International School in Nakuru. The journey proved difficult as the boys got their first taste of defeat at the hands of the hosts on the day playing it out 31-37 in favor of Greensteads denting the route to success.
The boys had a wake up call and got the drive to deliver once more, this time against the team that had been brushing off everyone. The boys had another trip out of town to Rift Valley Academy where they came out on top in what would be undoubtably the game of the season. Fast breaks, fake pumps, mad defense and even crazier attacks saw our boys hold their own against the hosts Rift Valley Academy who had as well not lost all season. The boys pushed and fought hard, securing all four points in the 4 th quarter coming back from 27-21 to beating the hosts 51-43.
The star studded team comprising of Jack Mwangi, who will be representing Kenya U16 in Basketball in Rwanda very soon, Deng whose blocks and mad defense saw us through the league stage, Arthur who has been the pivot at defense as well, Dylan whose presence was felt on the court , Voro who helped control the game’s pace, Gabriel whose skills got the team moving, Ryan Cyza who was vital in seeing out games, Joseph who was the revelation of the team having joined the team last, Ryan Githinji with the resilience and determination spurred the team on and lastly to our point guard and team Captain Ryan Gitonga who was always the coach on the court and the orchestrator of the games and plays. We also could not forget the support from the teachers and the sports department and school administration for availing amazing coaches to help develop the skills and talents of our young athletes.
We look forward to see our boys thrive in the future and in other competitions other than KAISSO league basketball.
