Brookhurst International School Kiserian campus has proved itself a force to be reckoned with in the arts after taking a well-deserved second position in a major inter-school poetry competition held at Nairobi Academy. The event attracted a pool of young, talented poets from different schools, and Brookhurst students excelled in a multitude of categories, justifying the school's status as a centre of creative excellence.
It was Brookhurst that performed great. They took home the top poet in the Under-14 category, showing the skill, talent, and eloquence of the young student, Allen Kiama, who took the stage and captured the audience with the range of emotions as she recited her poem. In addition, the school was awarded the second-best poet in the Under-15 category, this time Neema, showing great skills and standing out from the crowd. Brookhurst showcased the different skills and levels of dedication in the categories of age groups at the competition.
Brookhurst also won the prestigious title of Best Overall Talent in the competition, showing the capacity of the school to mentor students into developing and refining their artistic skills. This poetic success is not an isolated event but mirrors Brookhurst’s general encouragement of the arts. The school offers a lively environment for students to express themselves through all kinds of art, such as poetry, drama, music, and the visual arts. Through special programs, expert instructors, and the ability to engage in competitions, Brookhurst enables students to hone and showcase their talents. The poetry competition was not only about winning but also about celebrating art, confidence, and the power of words. Brookhurst students delivered performances that amazed both audiences and judges, showing excellent emotional intelligence and the capability to deliver important messages through poetry while also tackling current global issues as it mostly aimed at addressing ,femicide, which has been plaguing the world recently.
Brookhurst International School goes beyond poetry by investing in the development of art with modern facilities, fun activities outside the classroom, and an open style that allows students to discover their own voices. The school nurtures creativity in a variety of ways, including spoken word, theatre performances, music performances in the brass band and vocals, and visual arts through the paintings and drawings that
students have showcased even on our social media platforms through the ‘Art of the Week’ segment.
The victory in the poetry contest shows that Brookhurst really values artistic talent. As the school goes on to nurture the next generation of poets, writers, and
performers, it is an example of education that integrates school curriculum with art activities.
For parents, students, and anyone who loves art and wants a school that will promote learning and creativity, Brookhurst International Schools is the way to go. The win in the poetry competition is only one of the many success stories in the
decades-long history of the school's excellence in arts.
We will be hosting the third school play on the 13th &14th of March for us to showcase our other aspects of talents in the arts. The students have been preparing
adequately and cannot wait to showcase their acting skills in the event.
