HIGH SCHOOL (13-16 Years)

A World of Choice

Brookhurst’s High school enrolls learners from the age range of 13 to 16 years of age, year 9 to 11. Year 9 students begin their high school journey by following a broad and balanced curriculum designed to provide them with multiple options and develop their essential skills. As students’ progress to Years 10-11 the compulsory curriculum is slimmed down as students are offered greater choice in the subjects they study.

Students sit for their O-Level examinations at Year 11.

English & Kiswahili languages and literature, mathematics and sciences are core subjects for all students. Students are also encouraged to select a modern foreign language (French, German, Mandarin) as a core subject. Beyond the core element of the curriculum, a wide range of option subjects are available.

High School Curriculum

Brookhurst aims to have a unique approach to its secondary education division. We support our students through implementation of a long term assessment schedule that goes hand in hand with personal support. High school students take weekly/biweekly evaluation tests that allows us to harmonize traditional exam methods with innovative teaching techniques to reinforce GCSE learning methods. Additionally, students are furnished with age appropriate homework according to a set timetable.

Year9

Year 10-11

Students advancing to Year 10 and 11 meet learning objectives that are more specific and detailed in preparation for GCSE examinations. Students study 6-10 GCSEs. The range of subjects offers students multiple rewards without overwhelming them. Students are also afforded the best chance of obtaining the high grades universities prefer. Students are encouraged to focus on understanding subject content, while also developing skills in analysis, evaluation, research and independent study.

Year 10 and 11 students participate in after school activities that offers students a balanced school life. Sports activities such as basketball, football, tennis, golf, netball and volleyball are key sports amongst Brookhurst Year 10 and 11 students.

Brookhurst’s state of the art facilities offers senior students a variety of modern classrooms, libraries, laboratories, art rooms, golf park and sports arenas. Lessons are also held within our school forest to offer students a more open space to engage in learning. Tutors are teachers who aid the classroom teacher by taking individual students under their wing and mentoring them through high school education. Co-Curricular
We believe that participation in sport is a vital part of any education and participation by our students is high. Teamwork, support and regular practice and success help to develop pride and self-esteem. Competition is healthy and we cater for students of all abilities whether they have ambitions to compete in the regional and international competitions or gain a place in a school team. With an array of Art, Music and Drama groups, combined with societies, events and clubs, there is something for all tastes and abilities. Our Music department offers a huge range of performance opportunities including instrumental and vocal ensembles, solo opportunities and group performances.
