Sixth Form Curriculum
Brookhurst International Schools’ Sixth Form focuses on offering our students multiple pathways to achieving their academic goals. The following pathways are catered to the ambitious and inquisitive nature of our students.
Choosing the Right Path: IBDP vs A-Levels vs International Foundation Diploma
As students approach the final stages of secondary school, one of the most important decisions they and their families face is choosing the right academic pathway. At Brookhurst International Schools, we understand that no single programme fits every learner. That is why we offer guidance in comparing the three leading pre-university qualifications: the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), A-Levels, and the International Foundation Diploma (IFD).
Each pathway offers unique advantages, academic rigor, and career opportunities. Below, we explore the differences to help students and parents make an informed choice.
1.The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP)
Age Group: 16–19 (Two years) Recognition: Accepted by top universities worldwide Key Features:- Breadth and Depth: Students take six subjects across languages, sciences, humanities, mathematics, and the arts. Three at Higher Level (HL), three at Standard Level (SL).
- Core Components:
- Theory of Knowledge (TOK) – critical thinking and reflection.
- Extended Essay (EE) – independent 4,000-word research project.
- Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) – personal growth through service and extracurricular activities.
- Skills Focus: Research, critical thinking, time management, communication, and global awareness.
- Assessment: Mix of internal coursework and final external examinations.

A-Levels at BrookhurstThe Advanced Level (A-Level) programme is a globally respected qualification that provides in- depth academic specialization and a strong pathway to top universities. At Brookhurst International Schools, our A-Level students are empowered to pursue their passions through focused subject choices while developing the independence and analytical skills needed for higher education success. We offer both variations of A-Level, AS and A2. AS levels are basically half an A-Level. The student studies for 1 year (Year 12) giving a broad understanding of a subject but not in as much detail. AS levels are standalone courses, taken alongside – rather than as part of – A-levels. This means that they won’t form part of an overall A-level grade. So you’ll only take your AS exams at the end of your first year and you’ll need to take all the exams for your A-levels at the end of the two-year course. A-Level A2 courses have been specifically designed to be delivered in a linear fashion over the two years of sixth form.Who Is It For?
